In my search for the best possible boonie hat for my fly fishing excursions, I tried many different brands in numerous types of materials. Most seemed too thick, not allowing moisture to properly wick & evaporate; or, they were too thin, not providing adequate sun protection and didn’t last very long; some simply didn’t fit right altogether; and the brims on all of them were always flopping and sagging in my eyes while in the wind and rain.

Eventually, my research led me to Shelta, who I had heard about before, but was always kind of skeptical about spending $75 on a hat. I wish I had splurged on one initially and saved all that time and frustration. I can honestly say that this is, unquestionably, the Perfect Hat for anyone who does anything outdoors….So, basically everybody! The fit is pretty much custom. The front of the brim has a firm yet shapable plastic bill sewn into the fabric that can be massaged to get the look you want, but will not flop or sag in the wind or rain. There are other features I love too, like the removable lanyard, the lanyard clip & loop, the inner mesh & pocket, and the cinch strap which I first used just last weekend on a wave runner…The hat stayed put. Although, if it would have blown off, no worries because these hats float. They are made out of a top-of-the-line, super soft, sweat wicking, breathable, +50 SPF sun protecting material of some sort…Quite magical. They also make several different styles and have multiple colors to choose from. I now own two Shelta Seahawk models (one in S.B Camo and another in Storm Gray), and I wear them not only to fly fish, but for all of my outdoor adventures (swimming, gardening, hiking, camping,, etc.). I have since ordered two more for my sons (both Seahawks in Blaze Orange & Light Silver). The company seems to be comprised of good folks as well. They have a solid warranty and their customer service team is very responsive and helpful. If you’re on the fence about spending $75 on a hat, I can assure you that it’s certainly worth the investment.

I purchased the two different styles of hats individually. I enjoy both, but there are some differences that I feel should be better explained.
My initial purchase was for a XXXL Condor in the standard grey, however when I received my hat I received a Seahawk style hat in the size and color that I had requested. Being that the hat that I received was not what I ordered I contacted customer service and informed them of the error and that after trying the hat on I decided to go down one size to the XXL. The return process was extremely easy and I received my XXL Condor hat in grey about 1 week later. The Condor is a bit on the snug side due to the different style of cap, but I am still more than satisfied with the hat overall. The Seahawk's standard bucket type skull cap provides more room than the Condor's sport skull cap. After experiencing this snugness I ordered an XXL Seahawk and am extremely happy with the fit and coverage provided by it.

Excellent hat! This is my second one. They are very durable. I like that the brim doesn’t flop around. Does a great job of blocking the sun without being too big.
